First off, apologies for not posting any blogs last month. October is always super busy. Normally this would be an event post all about the concert I went to in Salem MA this past weekend: DARQ presents: God Module/Angelspit/Gothsicles/Voicecoil/Mordacious! I'd normally be showing off the outfit I wore, or talking about how it was the first time I had been to Darq. Or, I'd be posting about the outfit I plan to wear to Resurrection: The Gunpowder Treason this Thursday, but this blog entry is about other things this time. It's going to be long but bear with me.
My birthday is coming up, November 19th and I am having a HUGE celebration. I'm turning 28 years old. Now this isn't a significant number or anything, there's no thrill like when you turn 21. This birthday feels special to me though. It's a long story but basically, a lot of things happened in the past year, year and a half that impacted me and my life and I'm celebrating making it through and embracing who I am. I might get into more of that story in the future. To get more to the point, I believe in "using my powers for good." What better way than to use my social "powers" and my birthday? Basically, instead of giving me gifts, I'd like it if my friends or whoever else reads this blog to help one of the following charities:
First up is Extra-Life. This charity is dedicated to helping sick kids who are stuck in hospitals. I've been participating in this fundraiser on and off for a few years now. The idea of it is that you marathon games, whether they are video games or ones of the tabletop variety, for 24 hours, all the while getting donations from awesome people. The team I'm helping out is run by the nice people over at The Cardboard Republic.
Second up, Planned Parenthood. Sexual safety is very important to me. I think so many problems could be solved if everyone was just taught how their body works and understood how important sex is and how to be safe. Planned Parenthood has helped me so many times and helps so many other people. I think it's an invaluable resource. I have started a fundraiser page, but I am also using my party on the 19th at Ressurection to raise money. There will be raffles for fun baskets full of prizes and "Sexperts" from Planned Parenthood will be celebrating with us.
Next up, The Wayne Foundation. This was started by Jamie Walton and Kevin Smith. It's a charity specializing in helping women who are victims of the sex slave trade. A thing that still happens today believe it or not. Not going to lie, Kevin Smith is an inspiration towards my desire to "Use my powers for good." Well him and Batman, Another future blog topic meyhaps.
I emailed The Wayne Foundation because I was concerned about victims that don't identify as women and Jamie sent me a nice email telling me about their partner organization More Too Life which helps victims of sexual violence of all kinds of all gender identities. So you can donate to them too if you'd like.
So if you can't donate to any of these, please share them. If you don't want to share it, just do something nice for someone. Make someone laugh. Life is hard and shitty and upsetting. The least any of us can do is something, even something small, to help relieve someone else's pain or sadness.
And to all my friends who I like to make laugh: If you are lonely and need me to make you giggle, and I'm not around, watch some of my vines. :)
