Puck Shares a Thing! (Gothic Charm School.)

First entry of Puck Shares a Thing! First 'episode' a book I bought a number of years ago. See I've considered myself goth since I was in like fifth or sixth grade though I didn't start actively dressing goth or even listening to goth music. So I wasn't super familiar with the history or some of the finer social details. So when I was looking through the shelves of a bookstore and I stumbled upon Jillian Venters Gothic Charm School (An Essential Guide for Goths and Those Who Love Them.) I was intrigued.

(Cover of the book)

The book is an interesting read and overall pretty informative. It gives you some of the basics of what some consider goth. It is important to remember when reading this book that is mostly the opinions of one woman. A seemingly informed woman, but one woman all the same. I can see some people not agreeing with what she says and It is definitely not all factual.

Some of the topics covered include; fashion, music, society, mental illness, mainstream societies' perception of goths, romance, and more. My personal favorite is the dissection of goth club etiquette. I have been clubbing for seven or eight years now give or take. Goth clubbing is one of my favorite things in the world. So much so I've tried starting my own night (I may share that story with you one day.) So I agree with just about everything she has to say in that section. Some examples? Don't bring your drink onto the dance floor, watch out for other people, don't touch people unless you know them and you know it's okay. Things you'd think people would know but sadly don't. I've been to a fair share of nights that were basically ruined for me because a handful of people didn't know how to handle themselves on a goth dance floor. I sometimes wish everyone had to read this section of the book before going to a club.

So yeah I think most gothy types could learn a thing or two. Though as I said it's mostly her opinions so don't read this and think you're and expert in goth. Do your own research and come up with your own opinions.

Here is the author's website if you want to learn more about her and her doings.

See you next time I share a thing!

Puck shares a thing prologue.

I really enjoy doing this blog. There are of course some slight annoyances though. Real life things. I'm starting my spring semester of college soon for example. But I do want to make this blog more of a regular thing. My initial goal was to just simply have at least one post a month and most of these posts seem to lean on my event posts. Well what comes with college and other things comes being less able to go clubbing. I still want to post things! I want to do more tips and tricks/cheat posts but a lot of those mean going out to places, taking pictures, doing a lot of research. Things I don't have time to do properly. Not to mention I don't have the best cameras or photography skills.

Enter Puck shares things! These will be easy posts talking about things I like. Books, movies, podcasts, my favorite club nights, stores. Things like that. Most of them will be goth friendly if not straight up gothy things. Also using these posts I'm going to update this blog more often. I'm going to do 'Puck Shares a Thing' posts once a week. I'm not going to lie, I'll most likely write several posts in one sitting and then schedule them which will be way easier to keep up with the content.

These aren't going to be reviews necessarily and I am definitely not being paid or sponsored in anyway. Though I'm not against reviewing something sometime. I'm shooting for these to be posted every Wednesday. No particular reason, just seems like a good day.

I'm still going to be clubbing here and there so definitely expect outfit posts. I also will try other types of posts. I'll considered doing haul videos of my finds from Saver's and things. Dunno yet.

Well see you guys later!

Event Post: Sin-O-Matic Apocalypse!

Today's post is extra special! It's the birthday celebration of one of my best friends/brother, and my husband! Their birthday's are really close so they like to celebrate them together when they can. This year we're going to Sin-O-Matic together. A fitting celebration since I started dating my husband after this friend brought us both clubbing together.

The theme for this event is Apocalypse! I actually had a hard time coming up for a fitting outfit for this one. I ended up with a great outfit I think but it doesn't scream 'end of the world.' Oh well!

Tah-dah!

Front top: Lacey tank top that I bought years ago from I don't know where. plastic pearl necklaces I got from a sort of grab bag at Saver's. The sweater was also bought at Saver's. I believe I got it for maybe seven dollars? That seems to be the price of most things I buy there. Also in the picture are lacey tights that obviously go on my legs but my dress form doesn't have those so yeah haha.

Layers, layers, layers! The bottom layer consists of  short shorts made from an old pair of jeans, a ripped up long skirt I got at A.J. Wright a long time ago. The top skirt will be detailed in another picture. Also in this photo are my favorite boots. I wear this clubbing a lot and I'm the most comfortable dancing in these. I wore them for my wedding! I got them like many of my other staple accessories from a halloween store after halloween.

Top Back detail of the aforementioned sweater. Nice pretty lace window.

The top layer. A tu-tu style skirt with a sort of train back. Got this during a post halloween shopping spree.

I would post my husbands outfit but he's probably just going to wear the same thing he usually does. Hope I see some of you there!

Event Post; Excess: Fuck Snow!

I made this outfit for this past Wednesday's event Excess' Fuck Snow. I've gone to Excess before but it had been awhile and I hadn't had a chance to see the new location until this week. I had fun though it took us a long time to find parking and we only stayed for two hours since the parking we found was limited to that.

The theme of the night was to wear white. Hard to do for most gothy types. My first thought was to wear my wedding dress but that would be a hassle and pretty uncomfortable. Then I thought about busting out my dress from senior prom but that idea quickly went to the wayside. What I ended up doing was wearing one of my retro style dresses. It's not just straight up white but it definitely worked.

My mother bought me this dress from Hot Topic a number of years ago. I accessorized it with some plastic pearls and a stretchy belt around the waist. I did an awesome fifties inspired fancy ponytail hairstyle accented with a white headband that has a cute bow on it. It looked neat to me since I just recently re-shaved the underside of my head. I also of course had my favorite red lips I like to do. I forgot/failed to take pictures of that but I'm describing it for you anyways.

Since it is winter and it was very cold that night I of course needed something warm. I wanted to stay in theme so I borrowed this fur coat from my mother's house. It was my grandmother's and yes it is real fur. No I'm not in favor of real fur coats but this is an antique that was bought so long ago, so I'm personally ok with it. I wore my white scarf with black skulls on it that I hardly ever get to wear. I also wore my long, silky, finger-less gloves which were purchased cheap from a Halloween store after Halloween a number of years ago, and little black booty things that I bought for about seven bucks from Saver's.

This is a pretty busy week, expect another post very soon!

Brrrrrrr!

It's been cold here in New England. Still possible to have a cute gothy outfit though!
(I know, short post is short.)
